Exeter, Devon, England

I understand that, over Guatemala right now, there is a tropical depression trying to gather itself into a tropical storm. The name it has been given is Cristobal. Its projected path takes it toward Houston by next Sunday evening. I am quite concerned for all my friends there, lest this depression becomea not just a tropical storm but a hurricane. I am especially worried for Percy and Xiomara, who have, in the last few years, become as dear to me as my own family. Indeed, they are my most-trusted confidants. It occurs to me that I have never told them how very important they are to me. Later today, I must call them just to say, “I love you guys.” I can’t call now; it’s 3 am in Houston.
